Hazel Marie Karg passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 14, 2024. Hazel was born September 18, 1941, to Delmar and Mildred Blake. She was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Vernell Hutcheson; brother, Jerry Blake; and her husband of 56 years, David Leroy Karg.
Hazel is survived by daughter, Lina Marie Bates and husband Robert of Azle; son, Doyle Pete Karg of Weatherford; grandchildren, Hannah Marie Bryan of Tolar, Madelyn Avery Bryan of Granbury, Dane Christopher Bryan of Weatherford; brother, Delmar Blake Jr. and wife Rita of Mississippi; brother, Bill Blake and wife Pat of Arkansas; and sister-in-law, Jamie Blake of Richardson, Texas.
When Hazel was 11 years old, she and her brothers came to live at the Pythian Home of Weatherford as their mother passed. Hugo and Lina Horseman welcomed and loved them there. Hazel had an accident while canning peaches at the Pythian Home. Mrs. Horseman called Doyle and Vernell Hutcheson and they came to the hospital with a milkshake. Hazel became their daughter and she cherished them as parents and grandparents to her children.
After finishing high school, Hazel went to Temple, Texas and received a Registered Nurse degree from Scott and White Hospital. While she was there, she met the love of her life David Leroy Karg. On September 7, 1962 they married in Weatherford. They moved to Minnesota to be near David’s family. Hazel was the ER director for the University of Minnesota. She became a Nurse Practitioner and specialized in Hemophilia and served many AIDS and HIV patients.
Hazel and David moved back to Weatherford in 1978. After taking a few years off of nursing to raise her children, Hazel went back to nursing at Campbell Memorial Hospital. She worked home health and finished her last 20 years of nursing in Hospice.
Hazel and David ministered with the Church of Christ in Minnesota and with the South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford. Hazel continued to serve after David went to be with our Lord.
The family requests any monetary remembrances be made to either Weatherford Christian School, the Pythian Home, or Meals on Wheels.
A visitation to honor Hazel's life will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, May 20, 2024, both held at South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford, Texas.
