Helen Blackwell Carter

  Helen Blackwell Carter was born September 4, 1938, in Fort Worth, to Samuel and Florence Blackwell.

  She met and married Cole “Lee” Carter, her devoted husband of 38 years, and together they had three children. While stationed overseas with her husband, Helen served as a volunteer for the Red Cross and was a Cub Scout den mother. Helen and Lee settled in Weatherford to raise their family. While pursuing her degree at Texas Wesleyan University, she held positions at Weatherford College and Campbell Memorial Hospital; Helen later retired from General Services Administration (GSA).

  Helen Carter passed away on July 22, 2015, with her family by her side.

  Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Florence Blackwell; her son, Bobby Carter; her daughter, Edith Marie Carter; her brother, John W. “Buddy” Blackwell; and her beloved husband, Cole “Lee” Carter.

  Helen is survived by her daughter, Brenda Chancellor and husband, John; her sisters, Marie Chapmen of Crowley and Linda Behrens and husband, Grady of Santos; and her brother, Marvin Blackwell and wife, Yvonne of Weatherford. Helen was also a devoted and generous grandmother to Jillian Chancellor, Terry Carter, and Lori Tate, as well as a great grandmother.

  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, July 27, 2015, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, located at 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford.

  Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Memory Gardens, located at 5600 Mineral Wells Highway, in Weatherford. Pastor Roger Keck will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.
