Holland McCorkle Irwin was born to Ethel McCorkle Irwin and James Dee Irwin, on April 10, 1929, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He went to be with our Lord on September 15, 2021.
A graveside committal service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Annetta Cemetery, FM-5, in Annetta, Texas.
Holland graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas, followed by graduation from Southern Methodist University in 1953, with a degree in mechanical engineering and was certified as a professional engineer. Holland was a longtime employee of General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin. He retired in 1997.
Holland married Maxine Nichols on February 5, 1960, and raised three sons. Holland was a righteous man of God who believed in compassion, transparency and truth. He served the Lord at Travis Avenue Baptist Church both as a deacon and Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Holland also enjoyed singing with the Praise Singers Choir. Holland enjoyed a wide variety of activities including family time, RVing, working in the yard, SMU football, old time country music and, as a young adult, church softball.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Nichols; and sons, Rusty Stephens, Don Irwin, and David Irwin. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Caelyn Stephens, Mallory Stephens, Lindsay Irwin Briley and husband, Shelton Briley, Tucker Irwin, Cooper Irwin, and Cole Irwin; and great-granddaughter, Nova Briley.
