Jack Elton Stanley

December 24, 1931 — August 29, 2016

Jack E. Stanley of Poolville passed away Monday, August 29, 2016 after a lengthy illness.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM, on Friday, September 2, 2016, at the Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Visitation with his family will be held from 1 until the time of the service, Friday, at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford.
Born December 24, 1931 to Noah Gordon Stanley and Ruby Stowe Stanley, Jack was a life-long Parker County resident. He served in the United States Air Force in air traffic control and was employed with General Dynamics (now Lockheed Martin) for over 30 years. During this time, Jack met and married Sammie Jo Listenbee, with whom he recently celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary. Together, they adopted and raised two children, raised cattle and hay crops, enjoyed fishing and camping, and quiet country living.
Jack was an incredible man. As well as working at GD, he worked cattle, built fence, hauled hay, and served on the Poolville ISD school board for 10 years. Smart, inventive, and hard-working, he was always “the go-to guy”, and many trusted and relied upon him. He was honest, trustworthy, and a good friend. He will be greatly missed.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Ruby, and his sister, Doris Jean Winningham. He is survived by his wife, Sammie, of Poolville, son Greg and wife Pam of Sanger, daughter Donna and husband Frank of Poolville, and a granddaughter, Holly Renea Nelson… The Sunshine of his life. He is also survived by his brother Charles and wife Lona of Lakewood, Colorado, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
