James Charles Mercer, 84, of Weatherford passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008 in a Fort Worth hospital. Born May 23, 1924 in Martwick, Kentucky, he was a former resident of Hereford, Texas before moving to Parker County. After serving his country as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII, James went to work for Tx DOT where he retired after 30 years. He then went on to enjoy his second career as a realtor for 10 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford, the Texas Public Employees Association and a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge in Hereford. James was also a former member of the First Baptist Church in Hereford, Hereford Board of Realtors and the Rainbow Girls’ Board. Pa dearly loved God and his family and spent everyday setting a great example for those around him. James is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy Mercer of Weatherford; daughter, Ann Sims and husband Gil of Weatherford; grandchildren, Kellie Lowder and husband Michael of Fort Worth and Charlie Sims and wife Kym of Keller; great grandson, Carson Sims; sister, Nell Morgan of Lexington, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, Sandra and Jimmy Don Feagan of Amarillo, Carolyn and Danny Keene of Greenville, Arthur and Judy Housley of Napa, CA, Glenn and Sabra Mercer of Chattanooga, TN, Trinka and Glenn Rickett of Rossville, GA, Wayne Mercer of Atlanta, GA and Joyce and Terry Thacker of Lexington, KY and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral service: 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 23, 2008 in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with Dr. Steve Buckland officiating.
Interment: 2:30 PM in DFW National Cemetery.
Visitation: 5-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
