James Towson Coleman

September 16, 1940 — January 4, 2025

James Towson Coleman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, went to be with his Lord and Savior, on January 4, 2025. He was born September 16, 1940. Fondly known as “Jim,” he was the second son of Marguerite and Lawrence Coleman, of Mabank, Texas.

He was a proud graduate of The University of Texas School of Pharmacy, and afterward lovingly served the people of Weatherford, Texas as a pharmacist. He received formal recognition for outstanding service to the State of Texas as a pharmacist for over 50 years. He was a compassionate medical professional, and will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to people in their times of need.

He was an active member of Grace First Presbyterian Church for 61 years, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. An involved community leader, he served the City of Weatherford on many boards and organizations. These include: WISD Board of Trustees (past president), Campbell Memorial Hospital Board of Directors (past president), Rotary Club (past president), Weatherford Chamber of Commerce (past vice president), Optimist Club, Weatherford Texas Ex Student Association (past president), Parker County Pharmaceutical Association (past president), Masonic Lodge, and Knights of Pythias. He also served as coach for many local youth sports teams.

He was a business leader in the Weatherford community, serving on the boards of directors for Merchants and Farmers State Bank, Texas Bank, and Southwest Bank. He was a partner in multiple real estate developments throughout North Texas, helping to build communities.

He was the beloved husband of Myrlan Coleman for 61 years; father to Jill and Will; and grandfather to James, Cole, Brad, Drew, Payton, Towson, and Aidan. He loved his family, countless friends, colleagues, and employees. As an avid UT sports fan, he enjoyed supporting Longhorn athletics, year-round.

Jim was quite an athlete in his youth, playing football, basketball, and running track. He spent many evenings and weekends supporting the athletic endeavors of his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing were a passion. Most of all, he treasured spending time with Myrlan, both at home and on their frequent weekend getaways. For Jim Coleman, family was paramount.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Lawrence Coleman; his older brother, Larry Coleman, MD; sister, Jane Haber; sisters-in-law, Carolyn McDermett and Sandra Coleman; and his brothers-in-law, Willard Cox and Don McDermett.

He is survived by his wife, Myrlan Coleman; his daughter, Jill Coleman Chilcoat, MD and her husband, Gray Chilcoat, MD, and their children, James, Cole, Brad and Drew; his son, Will Coleman and his wife, Wendy Coleman, and his children, Payton, Towson, and Aidan.

He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Fran Cox; and by many beloved nieces and nephews: Don McDermett, J. Scott McDermett, Kristen Pogue, James Cox, Cari Roan, Brooke Coleman, Jon Coleman, Ashley Leasure, Amber Baker, Branley Rogers, Cameryn Coleman, Matt Coleman, and Brad Coleman.
