James "Dwight" Hovis, 90, loved by so many, passed fro this life to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2015 from cardiac complications at his home at Martin Crest Assisted Living in Weatherford. Dwight was born September 8, 1924 to William Arthur and Lillian Ruth Russell Hovis in Mountain Grove, MO. He was married to his childhood sweetheart, Norma Jean Orr for 71 years. (She preceded him in death November 2014) They brought their family to Texas in 1961 where they together owned and managed Town North Ben Franklin and Jean's Hallmark shop in Arlington.
He attended Southwest MO. State College planning to play football, which he dearly loved, but was drafted into the World War II was effort only one and a half weeks. He joined the Army Air Corp where he became a crew chief and gunner on the B-24 Bomber. Survivors: daughter, Ann Sonnier and husband Kent of Weatherford, TX; son, Jim Hovis( who preceded him in death, May 15, 2015) and wife Jill of Tulsa, OK; grandsons, Jeff Jones and wife Amy of Weatherford, Jon Jones of Weatherford, Dr. Paul Hovis of Baltimore, Maryland, Scott Hovis of Austin, David Sonnier and wife Kristina of Azle and Christian Sonnier of Fort Worth; great grandchildren, Justin Jones of Weatherford, Paige Shirley of Fort Worth, Jagger Jones of Weatherford, Chloe and Joel Sonnier of Azle and Jaden Sonnier of Fort Worth; nieces, Jo Beth Vines of Mansfield, Dana Silcox of London, England and Beck Morrison of Kimberly City, MO.
Dwight was an extremely devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, He will remain forever a pillar of integrity and faithfulness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, August 28, 2015 at Grace Community Fellowship in Weatherford.
