Janice Lynn Bowling

Janice Lynn Hill Armstrong Bowling came into the world on June 7, 1948. She departed peacefully in her sleep on Sept 26, 2023, at the age of 75. Janice graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1966 and attended Sam Houston State University where she earned her B.A. in Elementary Education. She attended Texas Women’s University to work on her masters in Elementary Education.

Janice wore many hats in her varied career. She was always a never tiring advocate for those with disabilities, especially mobility issues, and effected positive change wherever she was. In 1975, she was the chairman of the campaign for Richmond-Rosenberg and Sugar Land branch of the Arthritis Foundation. After the death of her first husband, John M. Armstrong, Janice became the first commissioned female Exxon Bulk Agent selling fuel and oil. She worked for Imperial Sugar in the Human Resources Department writing job descriptions and then moved to the refinery side and acted as a facilitator between management and union members. She taught school in LCISD and was a teacher who loved her students, going above and beyond what was required. Janice was trained and certified in Reading Recovery, the first such facilitator and teacher in LCISD. She brought her wonderful creativity to the classroom and made learning fun.

Janice was an adventurer who was well traveled. She shared life and many trips with her long-time friends since elementary school, known as the Magnolias: Dianna Berg, Sue Nichols and Kathleen McMahon. The “Mags” lived all the ups and downs of life with each other and made lots of fond memories together.

She loved her children and grandchildren; they were her whole world. She would tell them that they will always be connected by an invisible string, regardless of where they might be.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruby Hill; her first husband, Johnny Armstrong; her son, Joel Armstrong-Bowling; and daughter-in-law, Tammy Kim Armstrong-Bowling; nephew, Jarrod Wittneben; and cousin, Greg Barker.

She leaves behind her daughter, Jill and husband, Zach Savory; grandsons, Damon Puckett and Connor Savory; granddaughters, Shelby and Hope Savory; her second husband, John Bowling; sisters, Debra Singler, and Renee and husband, Clay Wittneben. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives as well as a multitude of friends.

Janice will be remembered for her love of music, loving and caring manner, her energy and enthusiasm, and her contagious laughter and smile. Those closest to her will remember her quirky fears of cotton balls and chickens, of which she was a good sport when pranks were pulled. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

The life of Janice Bowling will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., at Canyon of the Eagles, 16942 Ranch Rd 2341, Burnet, Texas 78611.
