Jay Paul Smith passed away peacefully December 22, 2024, in his home, surrounded by loved ones after a very short, courageous battle with ALS.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Karen Stevenson Smith; daughter, Hanna Jo and husband, Travis Measley, and children, Logan and Ledger; daughter, Karalee; son, Clinton and wife, Loren, and children, Eleanor and Leighton; brother, Jim Smith and wife, Beverly; sisters, Marsha Andres and Lorri Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Ruth Smith, and his sister, Pam Smith.
Jay was born January 6, 1959, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His family moved to Texas in 1973, and Jay attended Everman High School where he made lifelong friends who were known for their shenanigans.
He attended Texas A&M University and pursued an engineering degree, where he literally fell in love with the girl next door. They were married on March 13, 1982, and moved to Everman, Texas.
Jay joined the family business, Alpha Oil Tools, and worked as an engineer for 25 years.
As a dedicated husband and father, he actively supported each of his family members’ individual dreams, whether it be by coaching little league, raising 4-H animals, or attending every game, performance, and event. He also pursued his own dreams.
He and Karen dreamed of owning a farm, and he was so dedicated to making this dream a reality, he installed headlights on the old blue tractor, so he could work on the farm after commuting home from work. After selling the company in 2008, he served as a Missions Pastor. He went on to become a licensed realtor and built a network of repeat clients.
Jay loved helping people find their home while on this earth, but even more helping people find their eternal home through salvation in Jesus.
