Jean Saxon Warren

June 8, 1921 — January 27, 2015

Jean Saxon Hoffman Warren, age 93, a 45-year resident of Abilene, TX, died January 27, 2015, at a Weatherford nursing center. She was born June 8, 1921, in Forty Fort, Pennsylvania, to Adolf Hoffman and Laura Weiss Hoffman.  In January 1944, she traveled across the country by bus to Los Angeles, CA, where she married Air Force Aviation Cadet Longen F. Warren of Wilkes-Barre, PA, on January 6, 1944.  She remained in California while he completed bombardier training, and while he deployed to the European Theatre during World War II, where he served as a radar operator in a B-17 bomber. She proudly devoted her life to supporting her husband’s career in the Air Force, accompanying him through moves to Sacramento, CA, Salina, KS, Topeka, KS, Mountain Home, ID, back to Sacramento, and finally settling in Abilene in 1968, where he retired as a Lt. Colonel and chief navigator of the 348th Squadron 463rd Air Wing.  In her younger years, Jean was an accomplished horseback rider, a gymnast, and enjoyed acrobatics.  She was adored by her older sister, Helen, who was 15 years her senior and found great joy in spoiling her baby sister. She held a number of support staff positions after her children were grown, where she was known as a fastidious record keeper with an eagle eye for detail, retiring from the budget office at Dyess AFB in April 1,1997, but her priority was her husband and family.  Her house was always immaculate.  After she retired, she developed an avid interest in genealogy, meticulously tracing her family’s history back to 900 AD. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Helen Hoffman Dijchowski, and, in 1993, her husband of 49 years. Jean is survived by her sons, James, of Azle, TX, and Robert, of San Francisco, CA, and her daughter, Laurie Sten and husband, Ron, of Springtown, TX, and grandchildren Chief Logistics Specialist Nicholas Warren, United States Navy, and his wife Sarai of Honolulu, HI, Emily Warren of Fort Worth, TX, Tamara Sten of Weatherford, TX, and Ariel Sten of San Marcos, TX, and one great grandchild, Alexander Warren of Honolulu. The family would like to thank Bridgeway Hospice, Still Waters Staffing, and Martin
