Jeffrey Craig Williams passed from this life on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, in Galveston, Texas, after an unexpected cardiac arrest.
Jeff was born November 1, 1963, in Yuma, Arizona, to parents William Presley Williams and Jane (Craig) Williams. He spent his childhood in Irving, Texas, and graduated in 1982 from MacArthur High School. There, he was a proud member of Plymouth Park Methodist Church and its youth group.
After high school, Jeff went on to attend Angelo State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Animal Science. He followed that path south and spent two years at Texas A&M in the veterinary program. While in College Station, he found the love of his life and wife of 35 years, Kathy. After they married, Jeff changed course to find his passion in entertainment by earning a Bachelor of Radio TV & Film at the University of Texas at Arlington.
After a short time in the Dallas area, the newlyweds found a new home in Weatherford, Texas. Jeff started his radio career at Weatherford’s KZEE, spinning country records. He also called games for Weatherford High School and girls’ and boys’ basketball for Brock and Peaster High Schools. Next, radio took Jeff and Kathy to State College, Pennsylvania, and Penn State University as the sports director at WMAJ Radio.
As their family began to grow, Texas called Jeff and Kathy home. Jeff began the best chapters of his professional career with 13 years spent at WBAP Radio as the producer of the Mark Davis Show, 21 years handling play-by-play of Aledo High School football and 27 years broadcasting TCU Athletics (football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball). A true professional known for his extensive preparation and tremendous voice, he truly became a member of the teams that he covered and was proud to have broadcasted Texas state championships, NCAA Tournaments and bowl games.
Outside of his family and radio, his passions included hunting, golf, music and anything (and everything) sports related. Jeff was the life of the party. We will miss the way he filled a room with his stories and his love. We will miss the way he gave so generously. We will miss our “everything” guy and his barbecuing. But as his final act in this life, Jeff continues to give through organ donation.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Presley Williams and brother-in-law, Vernon Joseph Plowman.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Kathy Plowman Williams of Weatherford; children, Dustin Williams of Stephenville, Abby Williams Church and husband, Dee, and son, Presley of Amarillo, and Jake Williams of Weatherford; his mother, Jane Craig Williams of Cranfills Gap; brother, Gary Williams and wife, Angela of Cranfills Gap; sister-in-law, Karen Plowman Shelton and husband, Timothy of Weatherford; niece, Lindsay Shelton and husband, Eric Travis of Hermosa Beach, California; and nephew, Blake Shelton of College Station. Jeff is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, family, and his dog, Millie.
A Visitation will be held at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086, on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life and lunch will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, February 21, 2025, in Legends Club & Suites at Amon G Carter Stadium (2900 Stadium Dr, Fort Worth, Texas 76109). Followed by a burial at the family ranch in Cranfills Gap, Texas. Jeff was a proud Horned Frog fan in addition to his favorite color being blue. We ask that friends and family dress accordingly, and casually, for the funeral.
