Jennifer J. McCullough, 43, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. She was born on March 3, 1981, in Marion, Indiana, to John E. and Barbara J. Montgomery. Raised in Red Oak, Texas, for eight years, Jennifer later returned to Indiana to complete her education.
Jennifer will be fondly remembered for her resilience and compassion. Her inner strength shone brightly during her school years, where she was a fierce protector of classmates facing bullying.
A graduate of Pike High School in Indianapolis, Jennifer was a standout athlete, earning state awards in golf, basketball, softball, and football. Notably, she made history as the first woman to play on a varsity football team as a kicker.
Jennifer enlisted in the United States Army, training as a military police officer at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. During her service, she was recognized as a decorated sharpshooter. Later, she transitioned to the National Guard, continuing her dedication to serving her country.
In March 2005, Jennifer married the love of her life, Michael McCullough. Together, they shared nearly 20 years of cherished memories. Despite facing significant health challenges later in life, Jennifer’s indomitable spirit inspired those around her. Even while confined to a wheelchair, she remained committed to helping others whenever possible.
Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, John E. Montgomery.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mike McCullough; loving mother, Barbara Montgomery; brother, Patrick M. Montgomery and wife, Janella; half-siblings, Lisa L. Montgomery and John A. Lawson, Jr. and wife, Lisa; nephew, John Lawson, III and wife, Katherine; niece, Lily Lawson; and many other cherished family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 12 noon to 6:00 p.m., on January 4, 2025, at the Harrisburg Event Center, 409 N. 1st St., Gas City, Indiana 46933. (765) 517-2008
