Jerry V. Sportsman, 88, passed away from this life on Thursday, September 28, 2023. He was born July 2, 1935, in Marceline, Missouri, to George Howard Sportsman and Ruby Burnett Sportsman. Jerry worked as a machinist and retired from Lockheed Martin. Amongst his many interests, he enjoyed woodworking, shooting pool, gardening, horse races, and riding motorcycles, along with going to "picture shows" and watching westerns. Jerry will be fondly remembered for his genuine nature and quiet confidence. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved wife of 58 years, Barbara Ann Sportsman.
Jerry is survived by his son, Jerry R. Sportsman; grandson, Kyle Sportsman; great-grandchildren, Bailey Woods, Brooklyn Sportsman, and Brittany Sportsman; and dear friend, Linda Thomas.
A time of visitation with the family is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the East Greenwood Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas.
