Jerry William Bennett was born on May 15, 1939, in Coleman County, Texas, to Gordon and Lois (Wilson) Bennett. He peacefully passed from this earth on March 8, 2021. Jerry lived in Coleman until the family moved to Fort Worth and then to Hurst. He graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 1957. After traveling the world with the U.S. Army, the family settled down in Weatherford.
After graduation, Jerry worked for Anchor Metals before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country for 21 years which included two tours in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He later served as an Area Production Supervisor for the Denver and Dallas District Recruiting Command. He received numerous awards and citations during his service including Master Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, and Gold Recruiter Badge. After his retirement from the U.S. Army Jerry continued to serve by teaching JROTC for Fort Worth ISD at Southwest, Arlington Heights, and Trimble Tech High Schools for 15 years.
Jerry was a golfer, fisherman and hunter, but more than anything he was a friend and mentor to many. He was a loving husband, father and papa.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Geneva Curry.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kathy; daughter, Stacy and her husband, Eric Johnson; and the light of his life, granddaughter, Katharine. He is also survived by sister, Virgina Preas; brothers, Allen Bennett and wife, Linda, Wayne Bennett and wife, Nancy and Donald Bennett; brother-in-law, J.V. Curry and sister-in-law, Sue Johnson Arizpe; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, along with countless friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Manna Storehouse of Weatherford or a charity of choice.
