Joe Bob Plumlee

Joe Bob Plumlee, age 75, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at College Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Joe Bob was born on October 28, 1946, in Weatherford, Texas, to Willis and Mammie Plumlee. He attended Millsap and Weatherford schools.

Joe Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1970. He was honorably discharged and went on to become a deputy for Parker County Sheriff John Young. After leaving the Sheriff's Office, Joe Bob went to work for an automotive dealership and, after a while, he asked his boss if he’d consider backing him in a bail bonding business. His boss agreed. They established Brazos Bail Bonding Company in 1972. Eventually, Joe Bob bought out his silent partner.

Joe Bob also owned and operated Plumlee Ambulance Service and for a while he operated both businesses simultaneously.

Joe Bob continued in the bonding business, growing Brazos Bail Bonding Company into the oldest, biggest, and best bonding company in Parker County.

It was more to Joe Bob than a business, it was a mission, a highly successful mission.

When asked what was the secret to his success, Joe Bob said, “You’ve got to work long, hard hours, and treat people like they’re human beings, treat them with dignity.”

Joe Bob would send a card to each client saying that if the client would attend church three times, he would give them $150.

Joe Bob had an extraordinarily kind heart, especially toward members of the law enforcement community.

When Al Jones, an investigator for the Parker County Sheriff’s Office was battling cancer and was having difficulty with mobility, Joe Bob hired a limousine and brought Al and his Wife Kathy to attorney Jim Lane’s holiday party. It would be Al and Kathy’s last night out together before Al died of cancer.

“If Joe Bob was your friend, he was your friend to the end,” said his longtime friend Mark Riley.

Joe Bob was compassionate and thoughtful, but usually in a very quiet way.

Parker County Sheriff Russ Authier said, “The thing that I most admired about Joe Bob was that he was very generous and giving but he was never one to publicize the kind things he did. Joe Bob did so much for this community but most people will never know, because he never let them know. He was a very kind man.”

Once, during an interview years ago, the late Sheriff Larry Fowler said, “Joe Bob has a heart as big as Texas.”

That described Joe Bob perfectly. He loved people.

Joe Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Plumlee of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Brittany Roden; daughter, Christie Plumlee; daughter, Sunny Anderson and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Jodie Phares and husband, Chad; son, Chad Grant and wife, Lisa; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Joe Bob is also survived by his sister, Mary Stokes; sister, Alice Hobbs; brother, Harrison Plumlee; and nephew, Joe Stokes and wife, Sussie; and many, many friends and loyal business associates.
