Joe Douglas Herring, 83, passed from this life on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Joe was born October 29, 1939, in Weatherford, Texas, to Lonnie B. Herring and Lillian Naydene (Short) Herring. He served his country proudly in the United States Army; and Joe retired as the Assistant Chief Helicopter Pilot for Texas DPS. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Weatherford and of the Masonic Lodge. Joe enjoyed motorcycle riding, flying, hunting, and driving around his property in his jeep.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria Ann Herring of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Lana Griggs and husband, Kenneth Griggs of Weatherford, Texas; grandsons, Garrett Love of Weatherford, Texas and Dalton Love and wife, Abbie Love of Lipan, Texas; and great grandchildren, Kinley Love, Cooper Love, and Caroline Love.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., Weatherford, Texas, burial to follow at Hill Cemetery, in Lipan, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 9, 2023, at the funeral chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Joe Douglas Herring.
