Joe Douglas Smart, age 82, of Haltom City entered Heaven’s Gates on Sunday, June 2, 2019. Joe was born March 2, 1937 in Avondale, NC to Addie and Ruby Smart. He was a member of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country. Joe put his mark on many homes in his lifetime while working as a custom house painter and eventually retiring. He loved to fish and was known as “The Whistler” at the local marina. He found joy in singing and will be remembered for his sweet voice. Joe was a family man and loved his family dearly. He was known to everyone as “Papa Joe” and would always wave goodbye until you were out of sight. Joe was an active member of Christian Faith Fellowship and known as a faithful man of God who showed his family how to love deeply as Jesus did. Joe is survived by his precious wife of 58 years. Peggy Smart, of Haltom City, daughters, who he lovingly called “Sugar,” JoAnn Parker and her husband, Brad, of Granbury, Kathy Baker and her husband, Darryl, of Ponder, grandson, Kyle Williams of Fort Worth, sister, Suzanne Cranford and her husband, Jeff, of Charlottesville, VA, niece, Anna Grandpre, and nephews, William Cranford and Marc Alley.
