Joel Hardin Mallard

Joel Hardin Mallard passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 22, 2020, in Lewisville, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was resident of Aledo, Texas.

Joel was born to Marjean Snyder Mallard and John Hardin Mallard, on June 28, 1971, in Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Centerville, Texas in time for his first birthday. Joel attended Centerville schools where he played football, basketball, baseball, track and was also a member of the band. Joel graduated with honors in 1989. The Mallard family began annual ski trips when Joel was young, and those trips continued to be a tradition throughout his life. His first job was at Texas Burger as a fry cook where he learned to love tater tots. He was a faithful member of Centerville United Methodist Church.

Joel was a member of the class of 1993 of Texas A&M, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics. While at A&M, Joel worked at Target where he met the love of his life, Stacy Lynne Stroud. He then attended graduate school at Texas Tech University where he received a master’s degree in Public Administration in 1996.

He began a long and productive career with the Texas Department of Transportation in October of 1996. His positions included: Contract Management, Transportation Funding Specialist, Contract Specialist, Deputy Project Manager and Project Manager.

Joel continued his passion for sports in 1998 when he joined the Texas Association of Sporting Officials. He officiated football games on all levels from peewee to high school, including a UIL high school championship at AT&T Stadium. He also served on the TASO board of officials.

He married Stacy on December 13th of 1997. They loved each other so much, Joel was her rock and her heart and soul. They were best friends. Together, they had two wonderful children: Jacob Hardin, a sophomore at the University of Missouri and Allison Marlene, a sophomore at Aledo High School. His children were the light of his life, he adored them. Joel helped Jacob become an Eagle Scout and together they went to numerous Summer Camps, Venture Fest and Philmont Scout Ranch. Joel taught Allison how to play softball and was her number one fan. He and Stacy loved traveling and took family trips every year including many ski trips.

Joel was preceded in death by his father, John Hardin Mallard. 

He is survived by his wife Stacy; his children, Jacob and Allison; his mother, Marjean Mallard; his sister, Emily Gairo and husband, Anthony; his mother and father-in-law, Carlene and Glynn Stroud; brother-in-law, Scott Stroud and wife, LaTonia; one niece and three nephews. 

A celebration of Joel’s life will take place at Galbreaith Pickard Hilltop Chapel, 4941 I-20 Frontage Rd, Willow Park, Texas 76087, on Saturday, June 26, 2021.
