John Edwin Brothers transitioned into the life eternal on Friday, February 17, 2024, at the age of 79, shortly after a visit with his daughter and son.

John Ed was born in Graham, Texas on May 30, 1944. He grew up in Irving and Richardson, graduating from Richardson High School in 1962. He was enlisted in the United States Army from January 1966 to January 1968 and served in Vietnam from June 1966 to July 1967 where he rose in rank from Private E1 to Sergeant E5 while stationed at the Bien Hoa Air Base. His quick rise in rank was a reflection of his exemplary service.

John Ed received his undergraduate degree in Animal Science/Nutrition and his Masters in Plant and Soil Nutrition from Tarleton State University where he was the Superintendent of Tarleton’s educational farm. Afterwards, he formed Farm and Ranch Consulting Services in Stephenville, Texas where he worked as an Agricultural Consultant and Feed Nutritionist for farmers in Erath County and throughout Texas. He maintained servicing clients up until a year before his death.

For many years John Ed was heavily involved in the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville, Texas, where he drove the church van for senior members, helped lead youth and adult Bible studies and served on mission trips in Haiti, Mexico, and the Navajo Mission Academy in New Mexico.

John Ed led a full and active life with passions in 2-stepping, fishing, hunting, camping, road trips to every state in the contiguous United States in his truck and time with his cherished grandson, Christopher. He was the pillar of his family and will forever be loved and respected by them, as well as friends and clients. His final wish, after cremation, is to share an eternal lakeside campsite with his brother, Bob, after riding around a bit more in his truck.

The son of Betty and Paul Brothers and big brother to Paula Brothers, Bob Brothers and Priscilla Wyman, he is survived by Priscilla; Paula; his son, Patrick Brothers; daughter, Holly Dittrich (husband, Rob); and grandson, John Christopher.

His memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Stephenville, Texas (422 W. Washington St.).

The service will be live streamed at https://www.youtube.com/@fumcstephenville/streams.
