John Henry Egnew

John Henry Egnew, 87, of Weatherford, Texas passed away Friday January 6, 2012 in a Weatherford nursing facility. John was born October 18, 1924 in Spencer County, Indiana to John Anthony and Stella Virginia (Dunn) Egnew. He was in the United States Navy aboard the USS Minneapolis during WWII; John served his country faithfully from 1942-1945. Mr. Egnew moved to Champaign, Illinois in 1956 where he was a master optician for Drs. Seymore Landa and Alex Sorkin. In 1983, John retired to Corinth, Mississippi and began his passion of gardening and woodworking. He is preceded in death by his former wife and the mother of his children, Jessie Lee Egnew in 1999, wife, Lola Mae Egnew in 2001 and his grandson Thomas Black in 1992. He is survived by his daughter, Caryn Alton and husband Larry of Weatherford, Texas; son, John L. Egnew of Largo, Florida; two granddaughters; five great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
