John James Koenig Sr., 81, of Weatherford, Texas entered Heaven’s Gates to meet Jesus on January 13, 2015. He passed peacefully holding the hand of Betty, his bride of 61 years. John was born June 10, 1933 in Maryland. After many years in California he got to Texas as soon as he could, relocating here in 1992. A devoted husband, Korean Army veteran, retired 30 year Bell System/ATT employee, retired U.S. Postal Service mail sorter and Durham bus driver. He loved family and friends dearly. Over his long life he spent many happy hours mentoring young men in the Boy Scouts of America, camping, hiking, and traveling the United States. He was also an avid Snoopy collector. He was a strong, yet quiet Christian who spent many years as an active member at Harvest Church in Watauga, especially in the prayer ministry and church landscaping.
Survivors include: Wife; Betty & faithful pet Daisy, son John Koenig Jr. & wife
Beverly; son, Steven Koenig & wife Sherri; grandson, Ryan Koenig & wife Bridget (expecting 1st great grandchild, due June 22nd); granddaughter, Nicole Koenig; grandson, Josh Koenig & wife Chelsea; granddaughter, Crystal Garner; grandson, Chris Rader; honorary daughter, Cindi Starr.
The family thanks the staff at Holland Lake Nursing Center for their loving care of John during the closing chapter of his awesome life.
Memorial Service: Sunday January 18, 2015, 2:00pm at Holland Lake Nursing Center, 1201 Holland Lake Dr. Weatherford, TX 76086.
