John Lacy Chapman

October 23, 1936 — October 14, 2016

John Lacy Chapman, 79, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016, in Fort Worth. Graveside service 3:00 pm, Friday, October 21, at Annetta Cemetery. John was born in Fort Worth, October 23, 1936, to Ira B. Chapman and Edythe Lacy Chapman. A fifth-generation Texan, he grew up on area ranches. An outstanding baseball player in high school, he was known as a “heavy hitter” while a member of the Valley Mills High School baseball team. A former owner/operator of Quality Meat & Provision Company in Fort Worth (a family business established in 1933). He pursued many passions and interests throughout his life…painter, sculptor, photography, hunting, fishing, gunsmithing, competitive shooting, archery, and ranching…however, it was the cowboy way of life that he preferred, riding pasture and working cattle. An excellent marksman, he was a master at telling stories (and never one for letting the truth get in the way of a good story). A fan of the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas Rangers, he will be remembered by many for his annual Branding and Cowboy Cookout. A great friend to many, with a bigger than life personality, he was a true Texan, a conservative and a staunch supporter of 2nd amendment rights. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Billy Ray Chapman. Left to cherish his memory is his loving companion of 35 years, Karen Monez; brother, Barney Chapman; son, John Chapman II (Cindy); daughters, Sherie Reid (Mike), Chandler Caraway and Dr. Pamela Chapman; grandchildren, Michael, Lacy, John III, Rachel and John Pack; great grandchildren; Bradley, Micah, Keelie, Braylee, Tag, Olivia, Emily, Alaina and John; cousins, Dr. Robert and Dr. Martha Chapman as well as a host of other family and friends.
