John M. Case, of Weatherford, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018.
Family visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel.
John was born John Maurice Abrams III, Jan. 19, 1943, in Texarkana, Arkansas, near his hometown of New Boston, Texas. He was a 1961 graduate of Big Spring High School and a 1965 graduate of North Texas State University. He then spent four years in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a Second Class Petty Officer after serving as a sonar-man aboard the U.S.S. Brumby, DE 1044. After spending 33 years in advertising and as a graphic designer in Texarkana, Texas, he spent the next two decades working as a Special Education substitute teacher or aide, first in the El Paso ISD and then the Weatherford ISD. At various times in his life, John enjoyed painting and playing guitar as well as fishing and duck hunting on his favorite place in the world, Caddo Lake.
John was preceded in death by his wife Mellie Ann Webb Case of Nashville, Arkansas, in 2003; his mother, Bobbye Looney Case of New Boston in 1974; his father John Maurice Abrams, Jr. of New Orleans and his stepfather James Steve Case of New Boston.
John is survived by his stepson, Kyle Harding and his daughter, Taylor and his son, Bryce David of Texarkana, Arkansas; stepdaughter, Holly Harding-Smith, husband, David and their son, Dawson who live near Nashville, Ark.; his brother, William Blair Case and sister, Corey Case Tompkins of Weatherford, his nephew, Scott Tompkins of Dallas; brother, James Steve Case his wife, Susan of North Richland Hills and niece, Sarah Case Smith and her husband, Josh of Bedford; first cousin, Peggy Potter of Marshall, Texas, her daughter, Susan Routh, husband, Chris and daughters, Annie, Jenna and Meg of Omaha, Nebraska; her son, Robert Potter, wife, Stacy and sons, Sam and Reid of Marshall; first cousin, Frank W. Cox, wife, Cheryl and son, John Blair, all of College Station, Texas; their daughter, Cristy Mayfield, husband, Matt, daughters, Ruthie and Mary Blair, and son, Luke of Fort Worth.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, John has requested that memorials be made to the Weatherford ISD Education Foundation, 1100 Longhorn Dr., Weatherford, TX 76086
