John Pat Wise

March 3, 1924 — February 21, 2019

John Pat Wise, 94, passed away on February 21, 2019. A graveside committal service will be at 11 A.M., on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Hiner Cemetery.

John (Pat) was born in 1924 to Ruben and Ruth Wise in Fort Worth, Texas. He was married to Ettabel Hubbard Wise for over 66 years. He was a kind, gentle man who had a smile for everyone and he will be missed terribly. John had four daughters: Donna Davidson, Aurora IL (who has 5 children: Cindy, Tom, Lisa Eddie and Shelia (who preceded in death); 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren); Patricia Trail, Abilene, TX (who has 4 children: Denise Trail, DeeDee LaFrance, Brian Trail and Merry Schwarz; 4 grandchildren: Justin LaFrance, Taylor Barnhill, Cody LaFrance and Katelyn Petty, and soon to be 4 great grandchildren); Susan Starkweather; (who preceded him in death), Lubbock TX (who had 1 child: Kimberly Howsley; 3 grandchildren: Tori Whitaker, Hunter Gardner and Zackary Santos and 3 great grandchildren) and Carolyn Ostroff (who preceded him in death) of Long Island NY and later Weatherford TX, who had 2 children: Kevin Ostroff and Bridgit Drew, and 5 grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army during World War II and separated from service following injuries received while serving in France. When John (Pat) returned to the states and recovered from his injuries, he went to work as a bus driver for Greyhound Bus. Later, he worked as a salesman for a farm implement company where he retired the first time, then he drove a school bus of Special Needs Students for Weatherford School System. He especially enjoyed this job because the children were so appreciative and lovable. When he retired from this job, he enjoyed working in his beautiful flower gardens, being a part of a “Couples Bridge Club” with his wife and he especially enjoyed being part of his wife’s Class of 1950 reunions (who were quite active for many years). He was also passionate about researching genealogy for his and his wife’s ancestry—quite often taking camping trips to various parts of the country going to court houses and grave sites to update records (sometimes straightening headstones that had toppled over). He loved riding horses and especially loved his dog, July, who died several years ago.

He was a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church until his health became an issue for him.
