John E. Rummel, aged 79, transitioned from this life on Friday, March 1, 2024. Born on June 6, 1944, in Pueblo, Colorado, to Earl Rummel and Alys (Ohleson) Rummel.
John was a compassionate soul, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer sage advice. Universally beloved, he possessed a keen intellect and a generous spirit, often assisting those in need or facing adversity. His acts of kindness towards others will be remembered by many. Notably, John was essential in the aftermath of 9/11, contributing to the cleanup efforts in New York.
Having served his country in the United States Navy, John embarked on a fulfilling civilian career. He founded the Yellow Engine Service, a large diesel engine repair shop, at the time, the only one in the country. He also had a passion for restoring vintage automobiles. His expertise was sought after by car manufacturers, a testament to his skill and reputation in the industry. Additionally, he enjoyed a previous stint as a race car driver.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Graysneck of Weatherford, Texas; stepdaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Billy McKee; stepson, Rob Strafford; grandsons, Clinton McKee, Tommy McKee, Johnathan Strafford, and Blane Causey and his wife, Britny; brother, William "Bill" Rummel; sister, Sadie Ann Austin; and several nieces and nephews; and two great granddaughters with one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Joey Rummel; his sister and her husband, Alys Earline Spicola and Russell Spicola and brother-in-law, Phil Austin.
A funeral ceremony to honor John's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at St. Stephen Catholic Church Chapel, followed by interment at Memory Gardens in Weatherford, Texas. Viewing Tuesday March 5, 2024, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
