Johnny "J.J." Jones, age 78, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025. He was born on November 8, 1946, in Parker County, to James and Joyce (Abbott) Jones.
Johnny proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a career in the oilfield before retiring from the United States Postal Service. A man of few words, Johnny found joy in the great outdoors—fishing, hunting, and showcasing his skills as an excellent marksman. He was also a talented cook, best known for his outstanding pancakes. Above all, he was devoted to his family, whom he cherished deeply.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joyce Jones; his beloved in-laws, Buck and Evelyn Thomas; his sister, Jane Van Deaver; brothers-in-law, Butch Williams and Jim Souders; Aunt Alverene; and nieces, Beverley and Ashley.
Left to honor his memory is the love of his life, his wife of over 55 years, Suzanne (Thomas) Jones of Weatherford, Texas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Cody and Lexi, and Daniel and Shannon; his adored grandchildren, Chris, Jesse, Shyla, Gabe, Cade, and Dallie; his sisters, Shelley Souders, and Leanne Turner and husband Bill; his brothers-in-law, Albert and Tegun and wife Dona; aunts, Patsy and Nancy and husband Vernon; and numerous nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Julie and husband Eric, Jackie and husband James, Shelby, Matt and wife Julie, Josh and wife Laurie, Josh, Angela, Tabitha and husband Collin; and extended family members and friends.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Holders Chapel Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Holders Chapel Cemetery, in Cool, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
