Joseph Grady Turner, Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2022. Joe was born July 21, 1939, in Valdosta, Georgia, to Joseph Turner, Sr. and Doris Turner.
Joe took pride in his occupation; he was an electrical engineer for several years with Boeing Company on the Apollo program. He returned home to Mississippi to work for Entergy and then later retired. He was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Sanctuary choir and the Reflections choir at First Baptist Church-Jackson. Joe and Melva formerly resided in Brandon, Mississippi. They moved to Weatherford, Texas in June 2020 and they joined North Side Baptist Church.
He was a Mississippi State University alumnus, graduate, and an avid athletics fan. He was a member of the Bulldog Club and the Dugout Club, the baseball team presented him with a commemorative championship ring. (Mimicking the same one they received.)
Joe loved his family and friends and will be missed dearly by all.
Joe's family would like to express a special thank you to Solaris Hospice for their tremendous care and compassion. The family would also like to thank Suzanne Carter and Brenda Knoll for their loving care of Joe.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, whom he loved like his own, and brother-in-law, Joe Ashley.
Joe is survived by his wife of 59 years, Melva F. Turner of Weatherford, Texas; daughters, Kathryn Turner and husband, Phil Smith of Weatherford, Texas, and Trish Albertini and husband, Emilio of Chicago, Illinois; sisters, LaVon Ashley of Pennsylvania and Sharon Turner of Florida; several nieces, and a nephew.
