Joe, 77, better known as Poppee, was a long time resident of Coyote Flats, Texas. After suffering from a fall, he passed from this life to his Heavenly life on April 19th, while surrounded by his loving family.
He and his wife Shirley, the love of his life for 52 years, had recently moved to Weatherford to be closer to their family. He loved all the loud, chaotic gatherings he was able to attend now that he was closer. He found so much joy in just sitting back and watching everyone. It had become a joke for him when his kids would say “Be careful going home, Pop,” knowing he only had to drive thru pasture to get there.
When Pop was younger he loved Kenpo, earning a 3rd degree black belt. He had trained and received his private pilot license while owning his own plane. He also loved riding motorcycles, hunting and was an avid gun enthusiast. After retiring from the construction industry he became interested in woodworking, which kept his children all supplied with great gifts at Christmas and Birthdays. Devoting time to his small community of Coyote Flats is something he took so much pride in. Pop always flew an American Flag and said the USA was the best country on the planet. He always supported the troops and was so proud of his oldest great grandson, Hayden, when he joined the Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, Tray Cummings and wife, Lina of Virginia; daughter, Terri Kennedy and husband, Bill of Weatherford; grandchildren, Cory Kennedy and wife, Amy, Kyle Kennedy, Kadie Robinson and husband, Cody, Luther Cummings, IV, and Van Cummings; and great grandchildren, Hayden, Hartlie, Kyler, Paisley, Layton, Kinsley, Briggs, and Boone.
A private memorial will be held Thursday, April 29th.
