Joseph W. Teel passed away Sunday, 2/17/2013. He was born on December 27, 1945, to Joseph Raymond and Mirtie Mae Chambers Teel in Gideon, Missouri. He joined the U.S. Army on Oct. 24, 1963 and received basic training in Fort Leonardwood, MO. He served in Vietnam as a combat medic and exited the Army in Sep. 14, 1966. On July 4, 1965, he married Hortensia (Tencha) Sanchez in Valentine, Texas. He worked in Ft. Worth, TX, General Dynamics, for 5 years then he started his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons as Physicians Assistant. He worked in several centenaries and prisons throughout the country and WDC. He retired from BOP after 26 years in Dec. 1995 due to heart disease. They have a son and a daughter: Joe Jr, and wife Joni, son Stanton and daughters Ashton and Aniston of Weatherford, TX; Stephanie Teel Foss, daughter Reyna and son Dalton of Tucson, AZ (Davis Monthan AFB). He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Melvin Teel, Martha Huddleston, Louise Winchester, and Shirley Pickett. Surviving siblings are Gary Teel, Thelma Weathers, Wanda Truitt, Wilma Teets, Linda Thacker, Loretta Stanberry, numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews, all of Southeast MO. Rosary and visitation at St. Stephens Catholic Church on 1802 Bethel Rd. Thur. 2/21 at 7:00pm. Funeral Mass on Friday 2/22 at 9:00am at St. Stephens Chapel on 211 S. Main. Immediately following interment at Annetta Cemetery. After interment, reception at VFW Post 4746 on 224 Zion Hill Rd; hosted by VFW Auxiliary and Catholic Daughters of St. Stephens. Special appreciation ,love and gratitude to the following. Numerous friends that prayed for our family throughout his illness; to Dr. David D'Spain and his staff of TX Oncology that provided excellent and loving care through this terrible ordeal; and to Weatherford Regional Hospital staff who are second to none. We were there quite a bit, excellent care with courtesy, professionalism and affection were provided by one and all , from housekeeping to Doctors . In lieu of flowers donations may be made to VFW Post 4746 or St. Stephens Chapel Fund.
