Josie Coggins passed away Tuesday, December 1st, at 9:38, in Mansfield, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2020, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Josie was born July 22, 1929, in Morton Valley, to Susa Ada Hensley Tankersley and Calvin H. Tankersley. She grew up in the Reagan community and graduated from Morton Valley High School in 1946. She started to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. as an operator in Eastland, also working in Breckenridge, in Oceanside, California, in Weatherford, and in Fort Worth. She worked in several different departments, retiring from the engineering department.
She married Lowell Edward Coggins in 1948 in Eastland. They had two children, a daughter Paula Jo and a son Bobby Lowell. They moved to Weatherford in 1953, later moving out in the country to a small farm. She lived there until 2012, then moving to Mansfield to be near her daughter.
After her children were born, she was a stay at home mom and homemaker for nearly 18 years. She was involved in all their activities including Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Home Room Mother, Band Booster Club member and PTA serving variously as Treasurer, Secretary, and President. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing for her family and home which she enjoyed very much. Josie was a Democrat and was active in OPCD (Organization of Parker County Democrats). She felt it was an honor juries and she served on County Court, District Court and Grand Juries over the years. She also served 5 years on the Tax Appraisal Review Board. She was a lifetime member of CWA (Communication Workers of America). She was a member of the Weatherford Art Association and South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford. She was baptized at the Daughtery Street Church of Christ in Eastland in 1949.
Preceded in death by her husband, Lowell; son, Bobby; parents, Calvin H. and Ada Tankersley; and brothers, Weldon and Neal Tankersley.
Surviviors: Paula Jo Goolsby and husband, Tim; granddaughters, Amy Fuerte and husband, James, Laura Wilkie and husband, Vince; grandson, James Coggins; additional granddaughters, Katie Levesque and Beth Goolsby; great grandchildren, Marley, Layla, Owen, Phillip, Ivy and Eli Wilkie, and Violet and Colin Fuerte, Jacques Levesque, and Henri Levesque; brother, Jesse Calvin (J.C.) Tankersley; sister, Wanda Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews and close friends.
