Juan “Johnny” Valtierra, 87, of Weatherford, died in his sleep early Christmas morning, 2016. He was born October 31, 1929, to Narciso and Bernabe Espinosa Valtierra, in Dallas. Johnny graduated from Weatherford High School in 1947, and after 20 years, retired from the US Air Force. After retirement, he owned and operated a fruit stand at the public market and later worked at Kennedy Sausage. He was a full time caretaker for his mother, Bernabe, until her death. Never married, he loved and doted on his nieces and nephews, including Weatherford residents Michel Kinder and her husband Matt. He was a member at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Tomasa Galvan and Marcelina Rodriguez, and brother, Eufemio Valtierra.
Survivors include brothers, Diego Valtierra and wife Angela, German Valtierra and wife, Kay; sisters, Julia Willingham and Simona Kelican; brothers-in-law, Javier Rodriguez and Robert Galvan; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: 6-8 pm Thursday at St. Stephen’s Chapel at 211 South Main Street with Rosary at 7:30. Funeral: 1 pm, Friday at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church at 1904 Bethel Road. Burial: Memory Gardens Cemetery.
