Kathryn (Kathy) White Huffman

After an eventful and impactful life of over 80 years, surrounded by family at the Granbury home on the Brazos she loved, Kathryn White Huffman lost a valiant battle with cancer and joined our Lord and Savior on Mother's Day 2024. She is greatly missed by those of us left behind, but it is a joy to know she is now reunited with her parents, Lester and Ercil (Mom and Pop) White; her former husband, Robert (Bob) Schell; her brothers, Dean White and Keith White; her sister, Margaret Apperson; and her son, Stephen Schell.

Kathy was the fifth of Mom and Pop's seven children, and she is survived by her sister, Martha (Don) McKinney; her sister, Vicki (Monty Joe) Roberts; her brother, Jinks (Vicki) White; and her sisters-in-law, Jane White and Lou Ann White. She is also survived by her daughter, Stefani (Jason) Breisch; daughter-in-law, Ashley Schell; bonus daughter, Becky (Bryan) Gillan; bonus son, Burl Huffman; and her Lubbock High School sweetheart and husband, Walter Huffman.

Kathy loved family, and she held dear numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces. She especially loved her grandkids: Micah and Jacob Breisch; Cayden, Brynnley and Declan Schell; Reese (Emily), Megan and Nathan Gillan; and Corley and Brandt Huffman.

An exceptionally talented singer and performer, Kathy was the star of every high school musical production, and she majored in Theater at Texas Tech, where during her freshman year she was chosen in a nationwide search to be part of the first Six Flags Over Texas Campus Revue. Her beauty and persona led to a modeling career in Dallas and New York City, but as she noted, modeling is both difficult and short-lived. She eventually landed on a successful career as a realtor. In motherhood, her focus became her children, and she was a highly involved and devoted mother to Stephen and Stefani along with many others she mentored and who claimed her as "Mama Schell".

Kathy loved history, travel and loved Texas Tech sports of all kinds. She was always the glamorous life of the party at any social gathering. Throughout, whatever else she was doing, she was very active in church. A choir member, a youth leader and Sunday School teacher, her deep devotion to Jesus Christ was a preeminent feature of her life.

Kathy was loved by so many, and the outpouring of love toward her during her final illness has both humbled and strengthened our family. To honor Kathy, the Kathryn White Huffman scholarship in Theatre Arts has been established at Texas Tech University. Family and friends wishing to donate to this memorial scholarship endowment may do so through a check addressed to the Texas Tech Foundation, Inc., and mailed to the address below.
