It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved family member Kevin Andrew Fleeger, who left us much too soon on May 30, 2024, at the age of 52. Kevin passed away at home suddenly, with his loving wife by his side in his final moments. Kevin was brought into this world by Kenneth Fleeger, Sr. and Virginia (Morris) Bartholomew on July 28, 1971, in Huntington Beach, California.
His battle with serious medical conditions in recent years, primarily as a result of his time spent in our military’s service, showed once again his courage in facing challenges with a smile, and sincerely living the words of his famous “Follow Your Dreams - Never Give Up!” approach to life.
Kevin held many titles, having joined the US Army soon after High School and during Operation Desert Storm, becoming a Military Police Officer, before embarking on his journey into his career in the medical field. He started out as an EMT and worked closely with a Paramedic named Joel, and from those experiences they cemented a life-long friendship. Kevin next earned his LVN and RN designations, and was completing his studies while both working a day job and contributing greatly to his family as a single father. He managed to create for himself a fulfilling career in Nursing, wherein he became known for always providing the utmost in professional care at the highest level for all of his patients, earning him the prestigious Daisy Award. He had an amazing bedside manner and was able to talk to anyone, and meet them at their level, making even those in pain feel comfortable and well cared for.
Kevin was also known to us as a loving husband, self-professed “Goofball” brother, and good friend. All titles he wore proudly. Yet none of those could compare to his joy in being a father, step-father, and grandfather, where he continuously shared his love for new experiences with his family while creating vivid memories for them all.
Kevin loved spending time with each of his now adult children, Andrew and Ashley. He was always there for them. After each move as a military family, he would come and visit the new duty station and make sure his daughter was settling-in well, and of course he was present for each one of his grandchildren’s births, and then kept up constantly with every aspect of their growth and progress. His consistent teaching and communication with his kids, along with his loving protection, and presence in each of their lives was done with intentionality and thoughtfulness, so that the seeds he’d sown would bear magnificent fruit. His grandkids loved spending time with their Grandpa, and will truly miss him.
Kevin stepped into his role as “Bonus Dad” during his step-children’s pre-teen and teenage years and quickly formed an unbreakable bond with Anthony and Haylee. He added so much love, humor, and support to their lives. From escorting Haylee to her first father-daughter dance after her Dad passed, always celebrating each of their birthdays with Kevin’s personally made and delicious birthday cakes, introducing them to the “Six P’s” of life (look them up on your own, please) and teaching them gun safety, marksmanship, golfing, and driving lessons. Kevin’s interest in their lives was genuine, and made them feel like they were his own.
His relationship with his wife, Tami, and their marriage of the last seven years was the beginning of the era of “new Kevin”. She was instrumental in helping him “find his Happy” in what became his final chapter. He was beyond in love with her, and willingly confessed this fact to his family on many occasions. His considerate and thoughtful teachings came from his heart, and paired with Tami’s overwhelming generosity of spirit, together made them the perfect couple.
Kevin had an affinity for trying all things new, from motorcycling, golfing, fishing, to becoming Scuba certified, or soaring through clouds as a Skydiver, to competing as a skilled marksman in multiple USPSA shooting competitions. As a man of many interests and accomplishments, he was also known for his immense humor and wisdom, his occasional and impromptu mini dance parties in the kitchen, and cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones, who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives with passion and to the fullest.
Kevin was preceded in peace by his father, Kenneth O. Fleeger, Sr. And, left to honor Kevin's memory are his devoted wife, Tami N. Fleeger of Aledo, Texas; his four children; Andrew J. Fleeger and wife, Julie; Ashley M. Villafana and husband, Christian; Anthony Barocio and wife, Alyssa; and Haylee Barocio. His beloved grandchildren, Bradley Kevin Villafana, and Alden and Jace Fleeger, who all were a shining light in his life. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia A. Bartholomew; sister, Deborah L. Welch and husband, Mitchell; brother, Kenneth O. Fleeger II; along with his nieces and nephews, Jordan Elan, and Kenny III, Kayli, and Kingston Fleeger.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in Kevin’s honor on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Please contact the family for time and the location details.
