Larry Parvin Vowels, 79, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 after surviving two open heart surgeries and spending 36 days in the ICU, fighting hard every day surrounded by his family who never left his side.
Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 11 at 10 am at Aledo United Methodist Church.
Larry was born October 30, 1938, in Owensboro, Kentucky, son of the late Parvin and June Vowels. He grew up in Cleburne, TX, where he made many lifelong friends that he never lost touch with. After graduating in 1956, Larry attended Abilene Christian College before going to the University of Texas at Austin. He made his career as an Analyst for the US Postal Inspection Service before becoming a Supervisor for the US Postal Service, where he later retired after many dedicated years. Larry loved to coach little-league in Fort Worth and Weatherford and enjoyed traveling in his RV. One of his favorite places to visit was the Colorado Mountains where you could find him skiing on the slopes. Anyone who knows Larry knows he loved watching old westerns almost as much as he loved Texas Tech Football. Larry was also known to be an avid deer hunter. He loved to take care of his land, but above all, he loved being a Grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Larry Vowels, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Suzy Vowels; daughters, Leah Spencer (Tim) of Aledo, TX, Kristie Vowels of Dallas, TX and Stephanie Bond of Walsh, Colorado; son, Justin Vowels (Tara) of Santa Barbara, CA; Grandchildren, Steve and Shawn Bond, Charles Vowels, Fre Vowels, Colton and Aubrey Vowels, and Wesley and Charlotte Spencer, five Great Grandchildren and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or Weatherford Little League.
