Larry D. Whitehead

May 24, 1949 — December 24, 2024

Larry Doyle Whitehead, age 75, a cherished friend to many, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, December 24, 2024. Larry was born on May 24, 1949, in Odessa, Texas, to Doyle Whitehead and Verna Parker Whitehead.

In his younger years, Larry pursued his passion for music, working in Nashville as a song picker alongside his brother-in-law, Johnny Wilson. Later, he found his calling as an insurance agent and salesman, bringing comfort and reassurance to others during difficult times. Known for his strong work ethic and determination, Larry played a key role in the start and success of Hudson Crop Insurance, where he ultimately retired.

In retirement, Larry found joy in the simple pleasures of life—buying and selling knives, fishing, reminiscing about the journey of Hudson Crop Insurance, and, most of all, listening to his son pick and play the guitar.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle Wayne and Verna Whitehead; his brother, Gary Wayne Whitehead; and his sister, Jean Wilson.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth Whitehead of Brock, Texas; his son, L.D. Whitehead and wife, Kyla; his daughters, Lisa Salada and husband, Matt, and Kristy Bowden Porter and husband, Koley. Larry’s legacy continues through his seven grandchildren: Isabella, Garrett, Chloe, Adley, Zadey, Thora, and Wrenly. He is also lovingly remembered by his two brother-in-laws, Gino Solla and Otto Solla; and nieces, Genna Whitehead Holbrook and husband, James; Jami Ladue and husband, Rich, and family; and Tina Pendleton and family. And more family that loved and cherished him.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Johnson Cemetery in Dennis, Texas, officiated by John Nader. The address is Johnson Cemetery 5610 FM-1189, Weatherford, TX 76087.

Larry’s warmth, perseverance, and love for his family will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
