Lawrence (Larry) O. Whittaker departed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at the age 95, after a life well-lived. He was born June 25, 1927, in Whiting, Indiana to Richard Whittaker and Dora Lena (Collie) Whittaker. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WW2. Following his military service, Lawrence met the love of his life Barbara, and they married in November 1953. They celebrated more than 69 wonderful years together. Lawrence was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His loving memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched.
Throughout his life, Larry always worked hard to provide for his loved ones. He became a jack-of-all-trades and a master at some. In his leisure, he enjoyed oil painting and reading western novels. Early in married life, he worked as a pipefitter in the steel mills of Indiana. In 1963, he moved with his family to California where he became an HVAC technician for the Los Angeles area school district. In the early 1980’s, Larry retired because he was diagnosed with several health concerns including a fatal condition. Not long after, he was remarkably healed while attending a Catholic Healing Mass. With thanks to Our Lord, Larry and Barbara were full of life in the Spirit and began a new mission to share Jesus’ healing power to everyone they met.
Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Whittaker of Millsap, Texas (previously Victorville, California); daughter, Barbara Lynn Wyrozumski and her husband, James; daughter, Robin Luke; daughter, Laura Adams and her husband, William; son, Daniel Whittaker and his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Marlene Chuhaloff and her husband, Steven; son, Lawrence Whittaker II and his wife, Rhonda; 18 grandchildren, Travis, Aaron, Jamison, Angelica, Timothy, Amelia, Joseph, Sarah, Thomas, Samuel (Brother Francisco) Nathaniel, Aimee, Amanda, Ryan Christine, Matthew, Jacob, Jessica, and Samantha; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous loved ones.
