Leonard William Penton, 84, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on December 18th after a brief battle with cancer; he was surrounded by family with an outpouring of love from all.
Bill (as he was known) was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, the third of eight children. He enlisted in the Air Force at 17, and subsequently spent 21 years serving his country, seeing much of the world, and attaining the rank of Major. In his time in the military, he learned Russian as part of the Security Service; earned 3 college degrees, including an MBA; was selected for officer; and became a navigator, primarily on C130 aircraft. He was extremely proud of his service, as are we all.
Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Christel; his parents Jules and Lorena; his brothers Kevin, David, and Perry.
He is survived by his wife Fern; his children Roland, Thekla, Lorena, and Denver; his siblings Barbara, Roger, Kathy, and Bobby; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is being held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
A military graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, Texas 75211.
