Lewis A. Ayers, Jr., 91, of Weatherford, passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
Lewis was born on December 28, 1925, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Louis Ayers and Rachel Findley, but grew up in the Tabor Community in Brazos County. He served overseas in the Army as a combat infantryman during World War II.
After the war, he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. In 1950, he married Ann Elaine Wehrman, and they settled in Fort Worth, where they lived for 60 years. Lewis worked for many years as a tool and die maker for Convair (now Lockheed Martin), and he retired from the workforce after many years at Miller Brewing Company. In 2011, he and Ann moved to Weatherford to be near their daughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Elaine Wehrman Ayers; his parents; his sister, Louise Anastasi; his brothers, Raymond Ayers, Daniel Ayers, and James Ayers; and his son, David L. Ayers.
Lewis is survived by his daughter, Amy Adams and her husband, Marvin, of Weatherford; grandson, Matthew Schafer Adams, of Austin; granddaughters, Callie Higgs Adams, of Weatherford and Jennifer Glidewell (David’s daughter), of Connecticut; and one great-grandchild (Jennifer’s son).
Burial will be in the Wehrman Family Plot in the Bryan City Cemetery in Bryan, Texas at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
