Lillian Ernestine Chipps

Ernestine Chipps, age 73, died November 16, 2007. She was born February 28, 1934 to Ernest and Erna Marks in Winters, Texas. Ernestine was a graduate of Lubbock Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. Attending Texas Tech while a student nurse, she was president of the student body, editor of the school newspaper, “The Stethascoop” and the student representative to the Texas Student Nurse Association for two years. Ms. Chipps moved to San Francisco, Ca in 1956 where she met John Chipps. They were married in 1957. In 1961 they moved to Marin County, CA. While living in Marin she had many interests that include gardening, playing the piano, ballet, sewing, tennis and ceramics. Ernestine served on the Board of the Marin Civic Ballet, volunteered with the American Red Cross, Planned Parenthood and as a Teacher’s Aide. She returned to school and graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor of Art in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science and PHN Certificate. Ernestine moved back to Texas in 1996.     She is survived by her son, Colin Chipps of Lexington, Kentucky; daughter, Wendy Chipps of Rohnert Park, California; other relatives, Robert Marks of Abilene, Texas, Wanda Dendy of Weatherford, Texas and Mozelle Pridgen of Warsaw, North Carolina.   Funeral service: 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with Minister Murphy Phillips officiating. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
