Lonnene Wooten

October 8, 1947 — February 21, 2021

Mary Lonnene Wooten, 73, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away peacefully at Santa Fe Health and Rehab, on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Lonnene was born on October 8, 1947, to Lonnie and Rose (Bachor) Wooten, both deceased. Lonnene was a dedicated Christian, avid artist, and loved working with children. Her friendly disposition radiated in her previous hometown of Throckmorton, as well as the residents and staff at Santa Fe.

Lonnene is survived by her children: son, James Erik Latham and his wife, Sonia, and granddaughter, Erika Latham; her daughter, Emily Ferenz and her husband, Cory, and granddaughter, Brook Mitchell Steadham and husband, Bradley, and great-grandchildren, Hazel and Keaton; grandson, Richard Mitchell and his fiancé, Kali, and great-grandson Kailor; and grandson, Logan Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Lynda Schrick, and a brother, Johnny Wooten.

Her surviving sister, Betty Lee Burden Locke lives in Wister, Oklahoma with her husband, Michael. She had several cousins, nieces, and nephews who all adored and loved her.

Ms. Wooten was known for her love of teaching children especially in the church. She often contributed her artistic skills to VBS at the Church of Christ and also served as an aid during her granddaughter, Brook’s Girl Scout years. She also volunteered at the nursing home in Throckmorton with various activities with the residents. Lonnene loved to bake pies for Sunday dinners at the church where she gathered in fellowship with many friends.

There will be no funeral services held, but rather a small family gathering this summer to spread her ashes in Coleman. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Throckmorton County Youth Activity Center. The goal is for them to use the funds wherever they see the community needs it most. The address for mailing donations is Throckmorton County Youth Activity Center 301 N. Reynolds, Throckmorton, Texas 76483. There is also a GoFundMe (In Memory of Lonnene Wooten) set up for online donations.
