Luz S. Summers, 88, of Willow Park, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2018.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 200 Lakeshore Drive, in Hudson Oaks. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the church.
Luz was born September 12, 1930 in the Philippines on Panay Island to Agripino San Jose, Sr., and Purificacion San Jose. Her whole family survived a WWII invasion of the Philippines. Luz and her oldest sister boldly moved to the capital city of Manila and she went on to work at the Taiwanese Embassy for the U.S. Ambassador to Taiwan while putting herself through college. Homer Carroll Summers, Sr. met Luz on Christmas Day in the Philippines, falling in love with her at first sight, and declaring his friend that he was going to “marry that woman”. Luz made him wait. She continued her plans to immigrate to the United States and became a citizen before accepting his proposal. Together they had one daughter, Carola. Since she enjoyed the arts, Luz volunteered at Bass Hall for many years. Luz was a long-time active member of Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was member of the Eastern Star and was Past Worthy Matron both in Germany and later in the local Texas chapter. Luz and her husband enjoyed working and traveling all over the world and had the opportunity to visit numerous countries.
Luz is survived by her daughter, Carola and her husband Julian Harry of California; and by her sisters, Psyche San Jose, Eva Florentino, and Daphne Ramos; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Luz was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Carroll Summers, Sr.; and by her siblings, Agripino San Jose, Jr., Estella Wagner, and Conchita
