Mary Dawn Martin

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, Mary Dawn Martin, a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away at the age of 57.

Mary Dawn was born July 10, 1965, in Tooele, Utah, to Don Wilson Martin and Lorraine Beatrice Hanson. Her father was active military so she grew up in Utah, Okinawa, and Germany, and eventually ended up in Weatherford, Texas, where she lived out the remainder of her life.

Mary Dawn was a beautiful soul who had such a kind heart and always showed kindness and love towards others. Mary was so sweet and precious; she was funny, giving, and generous in many ways. She loved people and always wanted to make them laugh. Her mother loved her name “Mary Dawn” and would lovingly call her “my little merry morning” because she was happy all of the time.

Mary was a talented artist and could draw just about anything she wanted or was asked to draw. She also had an amazing knack for putting puzzles together before anyone else had a chance to find one piece and she enjoyed letting you know exactly how good she was and how bad you were at them. She loved to sing songs and would often learn the lyrics wrong but it was too late to correct her - she just continued to sing her own version, much to her siblings’ chagrin.

We, as her family, will miss her tremendously and long for the day when we will get to see her again.

Mary was preceded in death by her father, Don and stepmother, Barbara; all of her grandparents; aunts, Daphne Peel and Mary Inman; uncle, Murry Martin; and cousin, Valerie Francis.

She is survived by her son, Timothy William Martin of San Antonio; loving mother, Lorraine B. Peel; stepdad, George A. Peel; brother, Brett H. Shumway and wife, Tracey; sister, Karen Shumway and husband, Dave Newcomb; brother, Don A. Martin and wife, Shelby, all of Weatherford; sister, Jennifer Robinson and husband, Will of Chico; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation is at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, in Weatherford, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, New Haven Baptist Church, 1501 Peaster Highway, Weatherford, Texas 76088.
