Mary Ellen Guay, “Bomba”, 93, of Weatherford passed away Saturday, December 8, 2018. Mary Ellen will have a military funeral service at 10 a.m., Thursday at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. A visitation will be held at 6p.m. Thursday in the Galbreatih Pickard Funeral Chapel with a Rosary beginning at 7p.m.
Funeral mass: 10 a.m, Friday December 14, 2018 at St. Stephen Catholic Church 1802 Bethel Rd Weatherford, Texas with interment to follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mary Ellen was born May 11, 1925 in Dallas, Texas to Remy and Daisy Hartnett Ancelin. She was a US Navy veteran, stationed at US Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida serving from June 28, 1945 to July 17, 1946. Mary Ellen was a writer, photographer and editor for the Weatherford Democrat and The Daily Herald. Her first government job was Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells Texas as public information specialist. She retired from the environmental protection agency of the Army Corp of Engineer in 1987, at which point she began free-lance writing for the Cattlemen’s Magazine as well as her own business, People Resources. She was a people person and was involved in many community activities and was president of many organizations. She was a member and first female Commander of the American Legion Post 163, where she served as the official legion district,state and nationally historian. That year her and David Aiken submitted and won district scape book of the year. She was also a member of the “20 & 4,” the National Honor Society of Women Legionnaires.
She had a radio show “Talk About Town” in 1965. Mary Ellen was a member of The Writer’s Guild, Storytellers Guild, Toast Mistress and Women in Communications. A long time member of St. Stephen Church and alter society and served as a church lector. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Guay, brother, Jean “Buddy” Ancelin; sister and brother in law, Barbara and Gil Whitfill and her sister in law, Colette Ancelin. Mary Ellen leaves behind her children, Catherine “Cathy” Guay Honzell and husband Henry of Weatherford; Greg Guay and wife Paula of Lipan, James A Guay and wife Karen of Tyler, Mike Guay and wife DeAnna of Poolville and Chris Guay of Stephenville; 11 grandchildren, Paul and wife Casey, Krissy and husband David, Misty and husband Jeremiah, Tobi, Rowdi and husband Shane, Jason and wife Brianna, Dusty and wife Rong, David and fiancée Echo, Maci and Mya; 23 great grandchildren, Kayla, Baily, Kenidee, Bradley, Berklea, Kooper, Kenzie, Spencer, Devin, Kaci, Julia, Logan, Luke, Jack, Parker,Estee, GiGi, Ivie, Titan, Tulip, Emily, Gabe and Lyla; brothers, Donald J. Ancelin and wife Carole of McKinney and David Ancelin and wife Linda of Colorado; also many nieces, nephews and friends and her faithful dog, “Sissy”.
