Mary Jane Hatton 87, born May 2, 1928 in Sherman, TX to Virgil D. and Edna V. Cook. She was the second child of six. Mary was given two nicknames: one by her sister who couldn't pronounce Mary called her Mamie and by her grandfather who called her Toadie because she liked to catch and play with frogs.
Mary remembered working on the farm as a child and didn't like farm work. The family moved to Dallas where she attended school; she loved school and didn't want to miss a day.
While working in her teens ata a downtown theater, Mary caught the eye of a soldier, George Turney and married him at sixteen. They had three children.
Mary worked many jobs during this time of her life. She was a taxi cab driver, sales clerk, worked in insurance offices and finally in the Zales corporate offices where she retired from 25 years of service.
She lost both of her sons in 1961 from a drowning accident.
In 1962 she accepted Christ as her savior at Liberty Baptist Church. She became active in her church by learning, teaching children and was an active member in missions. She loved her church and the people in it.
In 1967 she married Lari Hatton. They lived in Arlington and later moved to Granbury. Her time with her grandchildren filled her life with joy, a renewed youth and she loved them dearly.
In her lifetime she was able to travel and see the U.S. from coast to coast. When her grandson Bill and family moved to England she visited them even though she had a fear of flying. While there she saw many of the London sites, rode double decker buses and the bullet train to Paris. She was quite proud of the achievements.
Her health continually declined from age, heart problems and renal failure.
The Lord opened Heavens' Gate on July 4, 2015 with her daughter by her side after a very short stay at Holland Lake Nursing Home.
Survivors include her daughter Deborah Turney Westbrook Hartz, son-in-law Michael, all of her grandchildren Julia Hartz, Robert and Jackie Westbrook, their kids Nancy and Hanna, Richard Westbrook, William and Gillian Westbrook and their kids Brianna and Will.
