Mary Jo Wimberley

October 1, 1939 — June 15, 2013

Mary Jo Wimberley, a lifelong area resident, passed away Saturday morning, June 15 at Plaza Medical Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. Formerly Mary Jo Claunch, she was born October 1, 1939, and grew up in Weatherford. She graduated from Weatherford High School.
She married Doyle Wimberley in 1958. She and Doyle raised three children and resided in Lipan, Texas as their home. He preceded her in death in 1983. Throughout their life together, they participated in community activities and worked together as owners of the Exxon service station in Lipan. She had been a member of the Eastern Star in Lipan as well.
Mary Jo moved back to Weatherford after the passing of her husband and lived next door to her daughter, Connie Nichols. She loved her hometown and enjoyed her days spent with family members and friends. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. Her remaining years were spent among those she loved, particularly her best friend and brother,Tom Claunch, her lifelong friend Ima Lee Moore, and her trusted friend, Joel "Tex" Weger.
She raised three children, Dr. Alan Wimberley of Pilot Point, Connie Nichols formerly of Weatherford, and Melinda Johnson formerly of Lingleville. Her greatest joy was helping to raise 7 grandchildren as their Granny JoJo and was a significant part of their childhood.
She was a faithful soldier for Christ and told doctors, nurses and family members in her final week that she was excited and ready to meet Him face to face. Her life had always been a true example of Christian service and sacrifice and she was steadfast in this to the very end of her earthly life. Her legacy lives on in the family she leaves behind.
Mary Jo was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Wimberley, her daughter Melinda Johnson and her daughter Connie Nichols. She is survived by her son, Dr. Alan Wimberley, her daughter in law Bonnie Wimberley, her sons in law Len Nichols,  Cody Johnson and Daniel Gibson. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Isaac, Mandi, Micah, Clint, Aaron, Bayli and Tori. Lastly she is survived by 12 great grandchildren.
 

Services will be held at Shady Grove Baptist Church in
Weatherford, Texas, at 10:00 a.m., Monday June 17. Viewing and
visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 at Galbreaith
Pickard Funeral Home in Weatherford. After the funeral service, her body
will will be transported to Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan, Texas for a
graveside remembrance at approximately 11:30. Her body will be buried
next to her husband. Following the graveside service, there will be a
private lunch for her immediate family members provided by the loved
friends of First Baptist Church in Lipan.
