Mary was born on April 14, 1929 in Palo Pinto, Palo Pinto County, Texas. She was the youngest child, and only daughter of Ida D Esther (Greer) and Calvin Levi (Lee) Palmer. The family lived in Palo Pinto until Mary was 10 when they moved to Mineral Wells. Mary began piano lessons at the age of 9 and became an accomplished pianist. She had several recitals atop the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells. Mary graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1947 and then attended business college in Fort Worth. Mary worked for a jeweler in downtown Fort Worth until she met and married Verne S (Scotty) Scott on October 9, 1948. They lived in Mineral Wells and a short time in Florida until 1958, when they built a home in Weatherford. Mary was a housewife until 1963, when Scotty took over the Phillips 66 service station at 202 Fort Worth Street, and she began keeping the books. The business grew into Downtown Auto Electric, which provided auto repairs and parts sales for over 40 years. After Scotty died in 2005, Mary and her oldest son, Gerald, continued the business for 2 more years. Mary was an over 50-year member of the Weatherford Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Weatherford. Mary used her musical talents to play piano for many Eastern Star chapters and Sunday School. “For the last several years, until COVID, Mary volunteered in the FUMC office on Monday mornings and she loved the camaraderie with the other volunteers and then going to lunch with them. “

Preceding her in death: her parents and husband, son Gerald (Jerry) Lee Scott, daughter Patricia Dianne Scott; brothers, George Wade Palmer, Forest Palmer, Leland Palmer, Jack Palmer and Thurman Palmer.
