Melissa Dawn Young, 53, of Millsap, Texas, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at her home in Weatherford, Texas. Melissa was born on March 7, 1971, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Andrew Young of Millsap, Texas, and Nelda Colley née Coalson of Garner, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Melissa on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at First Methodist Weatherford, at 301 S. Main Street, in Weatherford, Texas. If you wish, in lieu of flowers a scholarship fund has been set up for her son, Noah.
As the youngest of four children, Melissa grew up in Millsap and quickly developed a presence overflowing with lovingkindness for her family and friends that could only be described as spectacular. Melissa was well-regarded in school at Millsap and was awarded homecoming queen her senior year in 1989. Her contagious laugh lit up rooms, and she never wasted an opportunity to be present for anyone she loved on any occasion.
Melissa studied at Weatherford College and Texas Woman’s University, graduating in 1997 with a degree in Occupational Therapy. After working in the Parker County Co-op and serving students across school districts, Melissa then advanced in her career to become the Rehab Manager at Weatherford Healthcare Center. She utilized her kindhearted spirit to help heal people both physically and emotionally.
On June 20, 2012, Melissa fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a mother and welcomed her son, Noah Brayden Young. Her capacity to love grew even more, and Melissa worked diligently to provide a warm, loving home. He was the greatest joy of her life. Noah, 12, agrees that she’s been the best mom a boy could ask for.
Melissa was an avid photographer capturing many of the special moments of life, not only for herself and Noah, but also for many family members and friends. She never let a moment go by without celebrating life to the fullest.
In late summer of 2023, Melissa suffered a stroke after dropping Noah off at school. Although it was a debilitating brain injury, as an expert in Occupational and Physical Therapy, Melissa worked diligently to heal her own body and build up strength to continue her primary mission of being the best Mom for Noah. She fought valiantly and made many strides in her recovery; however, after more than a year of fighting, it was time for Melissa to find eternal peace and healing.
Melissa was preceded in death by her sister, Amy (Young) Walker of Weatherford; grandparents, Marshall Coalson and Hazel (Dalton) Coalson of Garner, and Jake Young and Helen (Cockerell) Young of Millsap.
Melissa is survived by her son, Noah Young; mother, Nelda Colley and husband, Les Colley of Hooks, Texas; father, Andrew Young of Millsap; brother, Mark Young and wife, Cherish of Weatherford; sister, Andrea Priest and husband, Tony of Crane, Texas; nieces, Emily (Young) Hearne, and Alyssa, Tara, and Jenna Priest; nephews, Ethan and Eli Walker, and Will Young; boyfriend, James Bunker; and countless other loving cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
