Melvin Drummond of Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away November 12, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas.
He was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on February 9, 1941. After graduating from Byrd High School, he continued his education at Louisiana Tech. Mel served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after 20 plus years from Bell South. He was a member of Gateway Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Cowden Drummond and Dorris Snell Drummond, and brother, Ronne Paul Drummond.
Survived by cousins, Jackie Downs, Norma Camel, Doug Drummond, and Sandra Jones, as well as several other family members.
Mel was a blessing to all his family and friends - always ready to lend a helping hand. He knew every dog and cat in his neighborhood - always had treats for them. He loved the gym and to walk.
Holidays in Weatherford without “Mr. Mel,” as he was affectionately called by Carley, Lillie, Dylan, Addison, Sophia, Raegan, Jacob, Adalynn, and Kase, will definitely lose some of its joy.
After a yearlong battle with health issues, Mel is finally resting in the arms of his Savior Jesus.
A memorial service will be held on January 4, 2025, at Gateway Church, 8925 Youree Drive, Shreveport, Louisiana 71115, at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest a memorial to Gateway Church Educational or Widows Fund.
