Melvin "Lightning" Carnley

Melvin “Lightning” Carnley, 80, of Annetta, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2007. Melvin was born May 19, 1927 in Toto, Texas to Melvin Geter and Minerva Elizabeth Jones Carnley. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Weatherford VFW Post 4746 and New Faith Baptist in Annetta. Lightning was a guitar picker and singer for a band named after him, the Lightning Express Band. He retired from White’s Mines where he worked many years blasting rock and maintaining and operating heavy equipment. Melvin’s wife Joyce preceded him in death. Graveside services       10 AM Thursday at Annetta Cemetery.Visitation      Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Survivors include children, Roger Carnley, Danny Carnley, Bridgett Harrell, Judy Mullins, Michael Carnley and Heather Carnley; sisters, Bonnie Hawkins and Goldie Baldwin; brother, Don Carnley; 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one on the way.
