Nellie May Wood, a lifelong resident of Weatherford, TX, died on December 5, 2014 at Community Hospice Center in Ft. Worth. She was 69 years old.
Born on September 27, 1945 in Weatherford, Nellie was the daughter of Norman "Preacher" Wood and Cordelia Annette (Reed) Wood.
Nellie graduated from Weatherford High School in 1966 and earned her licensed vocational nursing (LVN) degree from Campbell Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1968. Nellie spent her entire career, working tirelessly on the night shift, at Campbell Memorial Hospital for 38 years, until her retirement in 2006.
Nellie had a number of hobbies including painting, crafts, sewing, gardening, reading, and cooking. She loved her pets deeply and always enjoyed watching her Dallas Cowboys. Nellie loved living on Weatherford Lake as this was the last piece of the Wood Family farm. She enjoyed telling stories of adventure growing up on the farm. Her home was her solace and always found peace there.
Nellie was predeceased by her brother Billy Reed Wood in 2003 and her sister Reba Annora Pate in 2013.
Nellie is survived by her daughter, Theodora "Teddi" Fay Barry of Newburgh, NY, Teddi's partner Rand Otten, and her granddaughter Sheridan Barry; her twin sister Norma Fay Gammick (Richard) of Sparks, NV; her brothers Joe Bud Wood of Clovis, NM and Charles Lee Wood (Brenda) of Weatherford; her niece Gina Gammick (Christopher) of San Antonio; her nephew Richard Jr of Maui, HI; nieces Leah Teague of Ft. Hood and LaDonna Oney of Orlando, FL; nephew Bill Wiley of Granbury; and numerous and much loved cousins, nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Nellie's name may be made to your favorite charity.
A Celebration of Life Service was held at the Clear Fork Baptist Church
